Challenge for Growth in NZSL is a mentoring programme where New Zealand Sign Language is the mode of communication. Young people aged between 7 and 16 throughout New Zealand will be matched with a mentor who will meet with them (and their whānau if desired) regularly to ‘chat’ in NZSL. The programme is based on BGI's successful Challenge for Change initiative..
Referrals may come through schools or directly from families.
The mentors are volunteers. They are provided with training and are carefully matched with a young person who will benefit from working with a mentor in NZSL.
The mentors commit to meeting the young people once a week. The focus is on following a programme and having fun.
The programme is run as a partnership between ENNOBLE and BGI.
