Early Intervention Mentoring

Challenge for Change

Challenge for Change is BGI's early intervention mentoring programme. Over the course of a full year, we help young people aged between 9 and 13 to develop self-belief and valuable life skills.

Our passionate volunteer mentors are trained and carefully matched with rangatahi. They work as positive role models, enabling mentees to identify their unique needs, talents, interests, and styles of learning.

During one-on-one engagements, a balance of fun and deeper connection, and monthly group events, young people learn to build and nurture relationships with peers, whānau, and their wider communities.

Where appropriate, we approach youth development through Te Ao Māori and other non-Pākehā worldviews, grounding young peoples' growth in their personal connections with their cultures.

If you're a guardian of a Challenge for Change mentee, you'll find a supportive community and strategies to help your young people flourish through our Te Awhi (The Embrace) Parenting Programme.
