Challenge for Change
Early Intervention Mentoring
Challenge for Change is an early intervention mentoring and leadership program to support and empower intermediate and junior high school students. Running from July to June, the program aligns with Matariki. It is structured around the maramataka (Māori lunar calendar), enabling a learning experience that respects natural cycles for optimum growth and productivity.
Our Mission: We’re dedicated to creating a positive, inclusive environment where rangatahi (youth) feel safe to express themselves. By engaging in this supportive space, students develop essential skills to navigate our dynamic world confidently and resiliently.
What We Offer:
Personalized Mentoring: Skilled youth workers, who serve as positive role models, mentor rangatahi in one-on-one sessions. They help mentees identify their unique strengths, interests, and learning styles to foster a deepersense of self-awareness and personal growth.
Term-Based Support: Over the term, sessions begin weekly, gradually moving to every other week, encouraging rangatahi to apply their skills independently. For students who progress through the program, there’s also the opportunity to become peer mentors, creating supportive connections across age groups.
Community & Connection: With seven group sessions annually and a camp designed and planned by the rangatahi, participants have ample opportunities to bond with peers and tuakana (older mentors) and build lasting community friendships.
Challenge for Change fosters a community of growth, friendship, and cultural pride. We are committed to helping rangatahi build the confidence, resilience, and leadership skills they need to thrive.
